We’ve all started to pack our bags, ready for our next adventure and realized we have no idea how to pack everything up to save us the most time in the airport/security. Here we have a few tips on what you should pack in your carry on for safety measures as well as convince.
1. Electronics
- You want to make sure to put all your electronics such as laptops, phones, cameras, powerbanks etc. into your carry on. This way you have a piece of mind about your expensive objects and incase your luggage goes missing you won’t have to worry about your valuables getting lost. Also, if you ever put your phone or computer in your checked baggage, the TSA will most likely open your luggage to scan your items and return them to your bag. So it is always best to present your electronics at security check in your carry on.
2. Batteries
- We cannot stress this enough. All batteries must be packed in your carry on baggage regardless of what any other travel blog may tell you. Sure, some airlines allow batteries to be carried in your checked baggage but most often than not there will be some sort of issue regarding the batteries. It is always safe to carry them with you. Some airlines may even make you empty our your batteries if you choose to check in your hand luggage. Therefore, just put them in your carry on and save yourself the extra headache.
3. E-Reader
- Since getting an E-reader we seen to be inseparable with it! Though we had an attachment to reading actual physical books, the convenience of carrying an e-reader through the airport has made it all that worthwhile. We can pre download as many books as we want and have them with us anywhere in the world even when we don’t have wifi. Its a great purchase and helps save space in your luggage.
4. All Documents
- All important documents such as your passport, your ID and all other sensitive documents should be in your carry on. You do not want to risk having your luggage lost of misplaced and have no identity when you arrive in a foreign country. Keeping this documents in your carry on make it easily accessible and safe. We also like to keep our documents in a fany pack around our waste for quicker access. Documents can include your passport, wallet, and flight tickets.
5. Money and Other Valuables
- Although airport theft isn’t at its highest right now, you can never be too safe. It is crucial to carry any money or expensive jewelry/valuables in your carry on. There is no need to pack these in your checked baggage, store it safely in your carry on with your mind at ease.
6. Medication
- If you pack your medications in your checked luggage, you will run the risk of it being stolen/ lost if your luggage gets lost. You’ll find it’s nearly impossible to get a refill far from home in a foreign pharmacy. In addition to any prescription medication, also be mindful about packing any over the counter medication that you might need inflight or across seas.
7. Hand Sanitizer/Wipes
- Airports and Airplanes aren’t the most sanitary places, always keep hand sanitizers and wipes in your carry on to use throughout your journey! You don’t want to start your trip by getting sick.
8. Change of Clothes & Underwear
- Its not uncommon for airlines to leave you stranded in the airport, been there, done that. One lesson I learned from that is to always pack and extra pair of underwear and a change of clothes. Not only does this come in handy if your stuck at the airport but also if your luggage doesn’t make it to you on time.
9. Snacks
- Most airports are generous with their snacks and airport food, but if you’re one who doesn’t like to eat airport food and/or have food allergies make sure to pack snacks that can satisfy you along your journey.
10. Miscellaneous Items
- Some miscellaneous items we like to keep on-hand at the airport are our headphones, because the airplane headphones are not that great, and a blue/black pen. Most countries will require you to fill out short form with basic information, and most of the time the flight attendants don’t have enough pens with them so having one on hand saves you a lot of time.
If you follow these simple steps, you’ll have a hassle free travel experience by avoiding airport conflicts. Now zip up that carry on, grab your luggage & head out on your adventure. Of course taking your pillow/neck rest with you on long flights is a must as well
