One of the most famous national parks in Thailand, Erawan falls is home to the most breathtaking waterfalls! At Erawan falls you can hike up the trails and come across 7 different types of waterfalls. Not only do they bring a picturesque vibe but you can also jump into the clear waters, swim with the fish and become one with the waterfall. This spectacular national park is approximately 3 hours from Bangkok and about 1.5 hours from a small town called Khanchanaburi, which is where we stayed.
Erawan falls has seven levels, each of which has its own waterfall. Each level is unique in its own way, so we definitely recommend to try and complete all the levels! Each waterfall has a emerald green ponds that you can dive into and cool off from the hike, we highly recommend doing that! Along the trails you’ll come across many birds and butterflies that will make you take a second look, as well as lush greenery all around. Erawan national park has an entire forest, which are not assessable from the waterfalls, but are known to have many wildlife animals.
So how did we get there?
From Bangkok we took a bus to a near by city called Khanchanaburi. There, we stayed 2 nights visiting Ewawan National Park, as well as an elephant sanctuary. The bus took about 1.5 hours to get us to Erawan, and let me tell ya, it was no ordinary bus! There were doors missing all around, so hold your belongings tight! Haha what can can we say, Thailand is always an adventure. From the bus rides to the tuktuks to the main attraction, there’s never a dull moment. Once we got to the falls there were shops, restrooms (WC) and food and beverage stands in the main entrance. The entrance fee for foreigners is 300baht/person. There is also a no water bottle rule after the second waterfall, but don’t panic, if you happen to have a bottle with you they will mark it and keep a small deposit. When you arrive back on the way down they will refund the deposit when you show them the marked water bottles. This helps keep the national park clean.
Enough with the technical stuff, lets talk about how beautiful the falls are! We encountered so many interesting birds and butterflies along the way, which helped make the walk interesting. We swam in most of the waterfalls, but beware there are tiny fish called Garra rufa, that will nibble on your toes smilier to a fish-spa pedicure! The hiking trail wasn’t very difficult, however it does get slippery so have proper shoes on. I’m sure by now you’ve realized that packing a bathing suit and an extra pair of clothes in necessary for this trip.
Erawan falls, you are a treasure with your endlessly flowing waterfalls. See you next time!
